Decorative Hand-Painted Art for Interiors and Retail
A decorative piece is chosen for a room rather than for a likeness: the colour is picked to work with the space, the treatment is flatter and more graphic, and the subject is there to carry the design.
- What it looks like
- Subjective colour, flatter treatment, pattern and graphic shape over literal description
- Best for
- Interiors, hospitality, bars and restaurants, gift retail, series for one space
- Painted to brief
- Send the palette, the wall dimensions and the mood; we propose before painting
- In series
- Matched sets for one interior are the usual order here
- Mediums
- Acrylic on canvas is the default — fast to dry, durable, shipped sooner
Decorative work is bought differently from a portrait. Nobody is checking whether it looks like anyone. What matters is whether it works on that wall, in that light, beside that sofa.
How these are briefed
Usually by palette rather than by photograph. A designer sends the finishes, the dimensions and the mood; a hotel sends a floor plan and a count; a gift retailer sends a price point and a category. We propose subject and composition before any paint goes on, and nothing is painted twice.
Series, not single pieces
The common order here is a set — four for a corridor, six for a restaurant, a run for a shop. There are more than fifty painters in the studio, so a set is a scheduling question rather than a capacity one, and one painter still completes each piece so the hand stays consistent across the run.
Where it overlaps with portraiture
Plenty of decorative work has an animal or a figure in it. The difference is what the picture is for: a decorative dog painting is composed around a colour and a joke, a realistic dog portrait is composed around that specific dog. Both are painted by hand from a reference, and you can ask for either.

Decorative paintings FAQ
Can you paint to a colour palette rather than to a photograph?
Yes, and it is the usual way these are ordered. Send the palette, fabric or finish samples and the dimensions, and we propose a subject and composition before anyone paints. Designers normally brief us this way.
Can you make a matched set for one room?
Yes — a set for one wall or one interior is the most common decorative order. Same size, same palette, same hand. Say how many and where they will hang and we quote them together.
Do these count as portraits?
Some do. A dog in a hat at a bar is a portrait in the sense that it is painted by hand from a reference, but it is bought as decor. If you want a specific animal painted into a decorative treatment, send the photo and say what the room is like.
How large can a decorative piece be?
Up to about 5 m on the longest side as a canvas. Above roughly 2 m, freight becomes the real constraint rather than the painting, so we check shipping on your route before quoting a size that large.
Can I order a single piece at trade pricing for a client?
Yes. Trade pricing starts from a single piece, and a project — a series for one interior, or a standing monthly order — is quoted the same way. Request the trade price list from the trade page.
