Painting a Bengal: what we pay attention to
A Bengal is painted for its pattern. The rosettes and spots are the cat’s fingerprint — the arrowheads on the shoulder, the horizontal flow along the sides, the mascara lines from the eyes, the spotted forehead — and we draw them from your photo at the sketch stage rather than from a breed idea. Each rosette is then painted as fur with a soft outer edge and a warmer centre, following the curve of the body.
The coat’s sheen is painted as light: a soft highlight along the top of each muscle where the light strikes, which reads as the glittered luminosity the breed is known for. Brown Bengals are kept warm, from a golden ground to near-black pattern; silvers are a cool grey with black; snows are pale creams with the pattern in soft browns and the eyes — blue, aqua or gold — painted as glass.
The head is small on a muscular body, with rounded ears and large eyes, and the expression is wild and alert. A full body standing or stalking on a landscape canvas shows the whole pattern; a three-quarter head-and-shoulders study shows the face and the mascara lines.

Bengal portrait FAQ
How do you paint the rosettes?
Each rosette is drawn from your photo at the sketch stage — owners know their cat's pattern — then painted as fur with a soft outer edge and a warmer centre, following the curve of the body. We do not tidy or invent them.
Can you paint the glitter?
The sheen is painted as a soft highlight along the top of each muscle where the light strikes; the "glitter" reads as the coat's luminosity rather than as speckles.
Do you paint snow and silver Bengals?
Yes. Snows are painted as a pale cream with the pattern in soft browns and the eyes — often blue or aqua — as glass; silvers as a cool grey with black pattern.
Do you paint from a phone photo?
Yes, as long as it is the original file rather than a screenshot or a photo of a photo. Sharp eyes and even light matter more than the camera. Send it and we will confirm whether it will work.
Can I order a single piece at trade pricing for a client?
Yes. Trade pricing starts from a single piece, and a project — a series for one interior, or a standing monthly order — is quoted the same way. Request the trade price list from the trade page.
