Painting a Siamese: what we pay attention to
The Siamese is elegance and contrast: a pale body with dark points on the mask, ears, legs and tail, a wedge-shaped head with large ears, and almond eyes of a blue that no other cat has. We draw the head carefully — traditional applehead or modern wedge, whichever your cat is — and paint the points as a gradient that fades into the body with a soft, feathered edge.
The eyes are painted as glass: a translucent layer of blue over a lighter base, the pupil at the size in your photo, and a single sharp catchlight. Daylight in the reference is essential; a flash turns Siamese eyes into flat discs. The short coat is painted as sheen over the slender form, with the highlight placed once along the neck and the shoulder.
Seal, blue, chocolate and lilac points are matched from the photo; tabby and tortie points have their pattern mapped within the point areas. The breed’s face is intelligent and demanding, and a three-quarter head-and-shoulders study on a pale ground, the mask and the eyes as the subject, shows it best.

Siamese portrait FAQ
How do you paint the point colour?
As a gradient. The mask, ears, legs and tail are darkest and fade into the pale body with a soft, feathered edge — never a hard line. The exact colour of the points is matched from a daylight photo.
Traditional applehead or modern wedge?
Whichever your cat is. The rounder traditional head and the long modern wedge are both drawn from your photo, not from a breed standard.
Will the eyes look crossed or squinting?
Only if your cat's do, and only as much as they do. We paint the eyes as the photo shows them, as translucent blue glass with a sharp catchlight.
Do you paint from a phone photo?
Yes, as long as it is the original file rather than a screenshot or a photo of a photo. Sharp eyes and even light matter more than the camera. Send it and we will confirm whether it will work.
Can I order a single piece at trade pricing for a client?
Yes. Trade pricing starts from a single piece, and a project — a series for one interior, or a standing monthly order — is quoted the same way. Request the trade price list from the trade page.
