Painting a Persian: what we pay attention to
A Persian is a face inside a coat. The face is flat and round, with small ears, a short nose and large, round eyes set wide, and we paint it first — at the drawing stage the proportions are measured from your photo — so that it sits correctly under the hair. Then the coat is built around it as flowing masses, with individual strands drawn only where the light catches an edge: the ruff, the ear furnishings, the fringe.
Colour in the breed runs from pure white to shaded silvers, goldens and points, and each is painted as a range. Whites get warm creams and cool blue-greys in the shadows so the cat has body; silvers and goldens have the tipping painted at the edges of the mass over a pale base; Himalayans have their point pattern mapped at the sketch stage and their blue eyes painted as glass. Copper eyes on solid Persians are glazed to keep them luminous.
Tear staining is left out or kept in as you prefer. A straight-on head-and-shoulders study on a square canvas, the ruff filling the lower frame, is the composition most owners choose; a full body seated with the coat flowing to the floor is the show portrait.

Persian portrait FAQ
How do you paint such a long coat?
As flowing masses with a few individual strands drawn where the light catches an edge — the ruff, the ear furnishings, the fringe. The face is painted first so the eyes and nose sit correctly under the hair.
Will tear staining show?
Only if you want it to. Many Persian owners ask us to leave it out; some want the cat exactly as it is. Tell us at order and we confirm on the proof.
Do you paint doll-face Persians and Himalayans?
Yes. The traditional doll-face has a longer nose than the show Persian and is drawn from your photo; Himalayans have the point pattern mapped at the sketch stage and the blue eyes painted as glass.
Do you paint from a phone photo?
Yes, as long as it is the original file rather than a screenshot or a photo of a photo. Sharp eyes and even light matter more than the camera. Send it and we will confirm whether it will work.
Can I order a single piece at trade pricing for a client?
Yes. Trade pricing starts from a single piece, and a project — a series for one interior, or a standing monthly order — is quoted the same way. Request the trade price list from the trade page.
