Painting a Guinea Pig: what we pay attention to
Guinea pigs are painted as small, dignified sitters. The broad, blunt face, the round dark eye, the small folded ear and the mobile nose are drawn from a photo taken at the animal’s eye level, and the body — wide, low and tailless — suits a landscape or a square canvas. Painted at life size or a little larger, a guinea pig has a surprising presence.
The coat types are painted differently. Smooth coats get short, soft strokes following the form; Abyssinians have their rosettes mapped from your photo and painted as radiating strokes with raised ridges where they meet; Peruvians and Shelties have the long coat painted in flowing masses with strands at the edge; Skinny pigs are painted as skin in warm layers. Colour patterns — Dutch, Himalayan, tortoiseshell, roan — are drawn at the sketch stage.
Guinea pigs live in groups and are often painted that way: two or three from separate photos, arranged on one ground at a consistent scale, with the layout confirmed as a sketch. A three-quarter head-and-shoulders study is the single-pig classic.

Guinea Pig portrait FAQ
How do you paint an Abyssinian's rosettes?
As radiating strokes from each rosette centre, with the ridges where two rosettes meet painted as raised edges catching the light. The pattern is mapped from your photo at the sketch stage.
Can you paint my herd together?
Yes. Two, three or more guinea pigs from separate photos are arranged on one ground at a consistent scale, and we confirm the layout with a sketch.
Do you paint Skinny pigs?
Yes — as skin, in warm layers with the folds as soft forms, the way we paint a Sphynx cat.
Do you paint from a phone photo?
Yes, as long as it is the original file rather than a screenshot or a photo of a photo. Sharp eyes and even light matter more than the camera. Send it and we will confirm whether it will work.
Can I order a single piece at trade pricing for a client?
Yes. Trade pricing starts from a single piece, and a project — a series for one interior, or a standing monthly order — is quoted the same way. Request the trade price list from the trade page.
